How To Use This Library

It is quite easy to use Texture Library, just browse through and check out all previews of textures. If your are interested in one, go into the details of the texture and see it in scenes.

Texture Overview

The texture overview page lists the most important facts about a texture, such as name, author, main colors, categories, and copyright information. Additionally each texture is presented in different scenes. You can enlarge the images by clicking on them.

Texture Categories

For easy navigation and searching, each texture has one or more categories. Each category combines textures with similar features.

Texture Colors

One of the main features of a texture are its colors. Therefore Texture Library lists the main colors of each textures to simplify the search process. These colors are not the rgb colors of the texture definition. We evaluate the main colors by visually checking the final images in the library. So you will find well-known colors, such as Red, Green or Light-Green.

Demonstration scenes

Every texture is shown is several demonstration scenes.

  • Ambient Lighting

    This scene demonstrates the base brightness of a texture. The object in the middle of the image has the original unmodified texture, all other objects around have a modified ambient value in the finish section of the texture. This allows a comparision between original and modified texture to determine the overall ambient value of the texture.

  • Color Lighting

    Color lighting shows the influence of colored light sources on this texture.

  • Radiosity

    Because radiosity uses different algorithms to calculate the final appearance of a raytraced image, some textures might not be suitable for use in radiosity scenes. This demonstration image tries to give you a hint to consider a texture suitable or not.

  • Rotation

    Textures are not flat. Textures are three-dimensional, therefore they look different from each site. The rotation scene shows the texture from all sites.

  • Scaling

    The impression of a texture can change when it is scaled. Therefore this scene shows a few scaling values.

  • Shapes

    The appearance of a texture can differ from object to object. This scene shows typical POV-Ray objects.

  • Complex Scene

    A scene with more details, such as additional colors, more complex objects, such as a column, demonstrates the overall appearance of a texture in a real world scene.

  • Preview

    This simple scene builds a good image for navigation purposes. It shows the texture from different sites. Additionally a text will be visible if the texture is reflective or transparent.

If you like a texture and it is not part of the standard POV-Ray deployment, a download link will be visible on the texture overview page.
